If you’re thinking of trying to complete a long distance walk, pubs provide walkers with a great alternative to traditional B&Bs or hotels. Not only do pubs and inns in the North York Moors offer accommodation at reasonable prices, but they also offer walkers somewhere to stay with a sociable and lively atmosphere.

Today pub rooms are individually styled and full of character and charm. Long Distance Walks

However, if you are looking for more of a challenge and want to take part in a longer walking holiday, there are plenty of options available and you’ll really discover the incredible beauty of the North York Moors. The following are long distance walks:

Cleveland Way National Trail
This is the North York Moors Nationak Park flagship walk and is 109 miles! It takes roughly nine days to complete and starts at Helmsley and finishes on the coast at Filey.

The Yorkshire Wolds National Trail
This is slightly smaller than the Cleveland Way trail at 79 miles. It takes about seven days to complete and takes walkers from the Humber Estuary to Filey

The Esk Valley Walk
For a less strenuous walk the Esk Valley Walk is 35 miles and goes from the sources of the River Esk to the coast at Whitby.

Tabular Hills Walk
This walk is 48 miles long and starts at Scarbourough then takes walkers along the Tabular Hills to Helmsley. It takes about four days to complete. However if you really want to discover as much of the North York Moors as possible, if you combine this walk with the Cleveland Way National Trail you will walk around the entire perimeter of the North York Moors National Park! Just be warned it takes two weeks to complete!

Lyke Wake Walk
This is the most challenging walk out all the long distance walks on offer in the North York Moors. It is only 40 miles starting from Osmotherley and finishing at Ravenscar (East to West), however many walkers have tried to complete it under 24 hours since the 1950s. If you are attempting this walk in under 24 hours you must be properly skilled, prepared and supported.
