There’s so much to see when you visit South Yorkshire, the southernmost county in Yorkshire and the Humber region. Some of the well known cities in South Yorkshire are Sheffield, Doncaster and Rotherham. The county boasts a passion for music, shopping and nightlife, whilst also being surrounded by wonderful countryside.

The Peak District National Park stretches over into South Yorkshire, at the southern end of the Pennines.  Consisting of rolling hills, moorland and wildflower meadows, the Peak District has some of the country’s most picturesque scenery. Explore the great outdoors and trek one of the many walking trails or cycle routes.

The vibrant city of Sheffield is definitely worth visiting when in the county.  The university city is known for its lively social scene, independent bars and restaurants, cute cafes and shopping districts.  Traditionally known as the steel city,  Sheffield is recognised for its hard work to the metallurgy industry and was known as England’s main industrial cities during the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.  Whilst the smokey chimney stacks are no more, Sheffield remains a city of innovation and creativity, and this can be seen through the county’s arts and culture scene. There is an abundance of galleries, theatres and museums in Sheffield, as well as festivals which take place each year in the city.  Whether you are looking to explore the city, nightlife, shops or surrounding countryside, Sheffield is a fantastic place to go for a weekend city break.

A great family day out when you visit South Yorkshire is a trip to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster. The award winning Yorkshire Wildlife Park is home to walkthrough enclosures which allow you to get closer to the animals and watch the Ranger talks and animal feeding times. Whilst visiting the Park, make sure you don’t miss the pride of Yorkshire at Lion Country, which is home to rescued Romanian Lions.  The Park is also home to some of the most endangered animals in the world, including Amur Tigers and Leopards.
