Dorset is home to incredible beaches, a World Heritage Site, valleys and magnificent cliff tops making it a truly remarkable and memorable walking holiday destination. Enjoy picturesque walks in Dorset by day and relax in a quaint English pub by night!

There are hundreds of footpaths and bridleways that run across Dorset giving walkers the chance to explore quiet country lanes, picturesque villages, woodlands and rocky coves. Dorset is also home to part of the magnificent Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site, which runs between Orcombe Point in Devon and Old Harry Rocks in Dorset. There are lots of walks in Dorset, but we have cherry-picked some of our favourites below.  For a full list of walks in Dorset, visit The Outdoor Guide.

Old Harry’s Rocks Walk

Old Harry’s Rocks is one of the best sights on the Jurassic Coast. Our walk is a loop, starting at Studland and continuing out around the beaches and heathland and back again – but you don’t need to do the whole thing! If you do choose to walk the entire 10 mile route you’ll see a plethora of insects, birds and some truly stunning sights.

The George, West Bay

This three-hill walk, beginning in land and winding (and climbing!) it’s way towards the coast is the best way to see Dorset. From the top of the iconic Golden Cap you will have uninterrupted views over the precious, beautiful Jurassic coast. Once you’ve finished walking you will certainly deserve a portion of fish and chips – which you can find in the aptly named Seatown, where your journey ends.

Weymouth Railway Walks

Featuring the best of the original coastal town of Weymouth, this long but rewarding walk passes some of the loveliest coastal features in the area. You will see the beautiful Chesil Beach – an 18 mile stretch of shingle beach running all the way from West Bay to Portland. You will also see Fleet Lagoon, one of the only brackish lagoons left in the world. After finishing your walk you will need to get one of the regular buses from Portland back to Weymouth.
