Thatched country inn near Dorchester

The Brace of Pheasants is a wonderfully characterful 16th-century country inn surrounded by rolling hills and peaceful countryside. Hidden away in the tiny Dorset hamlet of Plush, this Grade II listed thatched pub near Dorchester began life as a row of cottages and retains plenty of historic charm, with heavy beams, an inglenook fireplace and open fires adding to its traditional atmosphere. There are just eight en-suite bedrooms, split between the historic inn and a Garden Annexe created from the former skittle alley. With virtually no street lighting and very few neighbours, evenings here feel properly rural, while clear nights offer excellent opportunities for stargazing.
