The Bear is a beautifully restored 18th-century coaching inn set in the heart of the Saxon-walled town of Wareham. Behind its historic frontage are 11 individually designed bedrooms, a welcoming bar and restaurant, and plenty of quirky details that give this independent inn a personality of its own. Each bedroom is named after a famous bear and mixes original features with contemporary comfort. Downstairs, the same relaxed character continues through cosy corners, a light-filled dining space and a bar pouring local brews, wines and cocktails. Upstairs, The Bear has 11 characterful bedrooms, each individually designed and named after a famous bear. Rather than a collection of identical hotel rooms, expect different layouts, original architectural details, bold wallpapers, vintage-inspired furnishings and plenty of playful touches, all balanced by comfortable beds and contemporary bathrooms. Selected rooms can be configured as twins, while some of the larger rooms have freestanding baths. Families are catered for too, with selected bedrooms sleeping up to four guests. Dogs are welcome on request in some rooms with prior acknowledgement – additional charges apply. In the morning, wake up to a hearty Dorset breakfast.
Food & Drink
Eating and drinking are central to life at The Bear. The approach is relaxed rather than overly formal: thoughtful modern dishes sit comfortably alongside satisfying pub favourites. Freshly baked cakes are something of a speciality, displayed throughout the day and available with tea or coffee.
