Heading inland from the North Yorkshire coast you will find the wild and rugged North York Moors National Park in all its splendour. Three quarters of all the world’s heather moorland are found in Britain, with the North York Moors being the largest area in England. Head up through the ridge-top roads passing through idyllic valleys, ancient roadways and stone crosses.

Explore the North York Moors on foot and pass through a maze of centuries-old footpaths dating back to ancient times.  For those looking to break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, take a gentle stroll or trek through woodland and rugged coves. Alternatively, visit some of the quaint country villages and market towns surrounding North York Moors. The National Park is also home to one of England’s most iconic stream railways.

North York Moors is home to wonderful widlife all year round. In September, you may be able to spot whales and porpoise off the Yorkshire coast as they follow the shoals of mackerel and herring.  Whilst, on land, you can spot badgers, Meadow Pipit birds, sparrowhawks,  peregrines, buzzards and butterflies.  There is an abundance of flora and fauna in the woodlands, and is truly a haven for nature lovers.
