The Yorkshire Dales National Park is situated in northern England. It covers thousands of square miles of moors, valleys, villages and rolling hills.  Unlike National Parks in the United States, the Yorkshire Dales is a living, working environment and is home to thousands of people. The Yorkshire Dales covers the central Pennines in North Yorkshire and Cumbria, whilst also covering some of Lancashire.

The Yorkshire Dales offers a diverse landscape from limestone scenery, caves, valleys and woodland. For those looking to break away from the hustle and bustle of city life, the area offers a peaceful haven, combining characterful villages and peaceful countryside.

Hikers and climbers travel to the Yorkshire Dales each year to take part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and climb the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.  If you are looking for something more relaxed, there are various gentle walks and cycle routes throughout the region.

The Ribblehead Viaduct is perhaps one of the most impressive structures in North Yorkshire. The huge railway line was built by Midland Railway and is 28 miles north-west of Skipton and 26 miles south-east of Kendal. The Grade II listed structure dates back to 1870 and was built by a large workforce of men, many of which sadly lost their lives during its contruction.

Each of the Yorkshire Dales has a unique charm. The Northern Dales provide wild healther moorland and valleys, limstone walls and hay meadows, whilst the Southern Dales are less remote, yet has beautiful spots like Malham Cove. In the West, you will find quaint villages and quintessential English towns.

Whatever the time of year, escape to the Dales for a relaxing break. Whether you want to ramble through flower covered meadows during the summer months, or snuggle up in a cosy pub with an open fire in the colder months, the Dales are a wonderful escape from everyday life!
