The UK is the perfect place to explore on two wheels with cycle routes for both advanced and leisure cyclists. A pub is the ideal base for your cycling holiday, offering delicious food and drink and comfortable bedrooms. Some have cycle hire nearby or on site and many have storage facilities for your own bikes. Your friendly landlord will also help you with finding suitable cycle trails in the local area.

Here are some of our favourite cycling routes in the UK:

Calderdale, Yorkshire

Situated in the South Pennines, Calderdale has steep valleys providing exciting climbs and descents and is an ideal location for both road cycling or mountain biking. The magnificent Mary Towneley Loop is a  highlight; a challenging off road trail which is not for the faint-hearted.

Glentress, Scotland

Glentress is one of Scotland’s famed 7stanes top-level biking centres offering award-winning trails from beginner green routes to fearsome black runs. Situated in the heart of the stunning Tweed Valley, the biking experience at Glentress is second to none and a fabulous way to explore the forest and and enjoy a cycling break in the UK.

Coed Llandegla, Wales

Coed Llandegla is a stunning private wood with many fine trails and routes suitable for all skill levels. One of the most popular routes is the 12km beginner’s ride that includes a gentle uphill section followed by a joyful downhill stint, with taster-jumps offering a little excitement.

Don’t forget to visit Sustrans. They have made it easy for you to find National Cycle Network routes by region, distance and whether they’re traffic-free.
