West Sussex offers a variety of scenic cycle trails for cyclists of all abilities. Below we have picked out some of the best cycle trails in the area:

Downs Link: The Downs Link is a popular multi-use trail that follows the route of a disused railway line from Guildford in Surrey to Shoreham-by-Sea on the West Sussex coast. This flat and mostly traffic-free trail passes through picturesque countryside, woodlands, and nature reserves, making it ideal for cyclists of all ages and abilities.

South Downs Way: While primarily a walking trail, the South Downs Way also offers fantastic opportunities for mountain biking, particularly in the sections that are open to cyclists. This long-distance trail traverses the South Downs National Park, offering stunning views and challenging terrain for more experienced riders.

Chichester Ship Canal: The Chichester Ship Canal offers a scenic cycling route along its towpath, running from Chichester to the historic waterfront of Birdham and beyond. Cyclists can enjoy views of the canal, wetlands, and countryside, with opportunities to spot wildlife along the way.

Forest Way: The Forest Way is a traffic-free cycling route that follows the path of a former railway line between East Grinstead in West Sussex and Groombridge in East Sussex. This gentle and family-friendly trail passes through scenic woodlands and countryside, with plenty of picnic spots and attractions along the way.

Cuckoo Trail: Located in East Sussex but easily accessible from West Sussex, the Cuckoo Trail is a flat and traffic-free cycling route that follows the path of a disused railway line from Heathfield to Eastbourne. This picturesque trail passes through woodlands, wetlands, and open countryside, with plenty of opportunities to stop at cafes and attractions along the route.
