If you’re opening the cupboard and dusting off your hiking boots and looking for a walking holiday in the UK, then Angus and Dundee is the ideal destination. With miles of countryside stretching across the region there’s a walk for everyone. From idyllic hill climbs to mazy routes taking in the traditional Angus and Dundee villages, this region is the perfect location for as walking holiday. With outstanding natural beauty the walking routes run through some of the most beautiful green landscapes in Britain.

Angus and Dundee provide a gradual transition from the Lowlands to the Highlands. Much of Angus is taken up by the fertile farmland, famous for fruit-growing and for Aberdeen Angus cattle, on either side of the brief upland of the Sidlaw Hills, beloved of Dundee folk. The attractive old country towns serving this area include Forfar, Brechin and Kirriemuir. To the east is an interesting coastline, ranging from the famous links at Carnoustie, through the fishing town of Arbroath, famous for its smokies, and on up to Montrose, between the North Sea and its tidal basin.

North of Strathmore the hills become gradually bigger as the countryside merges into the Highlands. Long, tranquil glens wind far between rolling hills and mountains; Glen Clova, Glen Isla, Glen Prosen and Glen Esk are collectively known as the Angus Glens and are amongst Scotland’s more accessible areas for hill walking, with some surprisingly craggy scenery around their uppermost reaches.
