What better way to explore the picturesque glens, mountain, hills and forests than by cycling in the Angus and Dundee region. Take in the idyllic scenery on display in Angus and Dundee through the cycle trails that traverse the rolling hills, picturesque coastal towns and along historic sites such as Glamis Castle and St Andrews Cathedral. With Angus and Dundee being one of the more scarcely populated regions of the UK the cycle routes, country lanes and bridleways will be serene and ready to explore.

With many cycle trails offering breathtaking views cycling across Angus and Dundee and the surrounding towns, cycling is a great way to explore and keep active. If you don’t want to bring your own bikes, cycle hire is available at a range of shops across Angus and Dundee. Hire a range of bikes, from kids bikes to trial and mountain bikes, as well as helmets, tools and maps to help rookie cyclists in the region. In addition, many cycle shops offer coaching and training courses for the inexperienced cyclists who still want to enjoy riding in Angus and Dundee.

If you prefer to get the adrenaline pumping and want to try mountain biking, there a range of routes from the beginner to the experienced rider. Many cycle companies house all the facilities ‘under one roof’ with a restaurants, camp sites and an extensive range of mountain trails.

One route starts in Kirriemuir, the birth place of Peter Pan creator JM Barrie. Follow the tranquil route to the beautiful Glen Isla through fertile farmland and woodland.

For a more relaxed cycle, a section of National Cycle Route 1 runs about 20 miles along the coast from Arbroath to Dundee. Follow the trail to the shore and visit the seaside town of Carnoustie, made famous by its championship golf course. Continue along to the sandy beach of Monifieth and take in spectacular views across the water to Fife.

Similarly, the traffic-free path can be followed from Montrose and over the spectacular North Water Viaduct which is ideal for less experienced cyclists.

You can even explore the sites of Dundee on the specially made signposted cycle route which avoids main roads where possible. The Green Circular links the major parks and many places of interest right through the city, from the Camperdown Country and Wildlife Park, the scenic waterfront at Broughty Ferry and the city centre where you can visit the many museums and places of interest including the RRS Discovery.
