Pubs Featured in The Times 100 Best Places to Stay in Britain

We were delighted to read that a number of our pubs were featured in The Times’ 100 Best Places to Stay in Britain for 2023. The list which includes hotels, pubs and guesthouses across the country has been assessed based on their interior design, food, location, sustainability, accessibility, family and dog-friendliness.
Of the list, we have cherry-picked a few of our favourites which can be found on Stay in a Pub.
The Grosvenor, Stockbridge, Hampshire
The Grosvenor has been sympathetically restored by Simon and Teresa Henderson, who took over the lease in 2019. The pub has 34 stunning bedrooms which have all been individually designed. Expect bursts of colour, large comfy beds and beautiful artwork on the walls. Downstairs, there is a vibrant bar which is both cosy and colourful. Enjoy a glass of something before moving on to dinner in The River Room, or the Market Room Restaurant. The menus at The Grosvenor change with the seasons, and a lot of the ingredients are sourced from local suppliers.
Beadnell Towers, Beadnell, Northumberland
Beadnell Towers is a beautiful Grade II listed pub and hotel dating back to the 18th century. It is just a short stroll from Beadnell Bay and about 6 miles southeast of the coastal village of Bamburgh. The thing that makes this pub so special is that it is wonderful for families and those with dogs. They have a mix of bedrooms, including accessible and connecting rooms – the latter being a firm favourite for families with little ones! The pub has been elegantly decorated throughout, with features like William Morris wallpaper, oversized headboards, and beautiful soft furnishings upstairs and downstairs.
The Pheasant at Neenton, Bridgnorth, Shropshire
The Pheasant is a thriving country inn which was lovingly restored by the local community in 2014 after being closed for nearly 9 years. The pub prides itself on offering the best of Shropshire food and warm hospitality for visitors from near and far. Manager and Head Chef, Mark Harris trained at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester under Marco Pierre White; and offers Rosette-quality dishes and seasonal menus at The Pheasant. Expect a warm welcome, comfy sofas by the fire and delicious food.
The Globe Inn, Wells-next-to-the-Sea, Norfolk
Situated in the coastal town of Wells, The Globe is within walking distance of dreamy golden beaches, Holkham Beach’s grassy dunes and the seal colonies at Blakeney Point. This wonderful dog-friendly gastropub has 19 beautiful bedrooms, that include luxurious beds, rattan chairs and a colour palette inspired by the coast. The pub is the perfect place to stay with your four-legged friend, as all their bedrooms are “pooch perfect” and come equipped with a dog bed, towel, and water bowl to make their stay all the more comfy. After a brisk wall along the beach, enjoy a glass of something by their woodburning fire and enjoy superb food from their seasonal menu.
The King’s Arms, Dorchester, Dorset
As soon as you enter The King’s Arms, you are greeted by its unrivalled style and elegance. Interior designer Ali Guttridge has carefully combined old with new, retaining the building’s character by restoring original features whilst adding modern day touches. Their beautiful, boutique bedrooms are a gorgeous mix of vintage finds and playful, modern furniture.
You can expect an impressive menu at The King’s Arms, which is overseen by Tom Blake, Executive Chef (previously of River Cottage), alongside Head Chef, Steve Yates. Ingredients are sourced from local suppliers and dishes include favourite pub classics with a contemporary twist.
Royal Oak Ramsden, Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire
Situated in the Cotswold village of Ramsden, The Royal Oak is a Grade II listed building that has been elegantly restored, whilst also retaining a traditional country pub feel to it. Fresh flower arrangements are dotted throughout the pub, as well as vintage and contemporary interiors. Upstairs, there are five inviting bedrooms that come with their own unique personality and charm.
The Royal Oak prides itself on its exceptional food, serving contemporary pub classics using ingredients which have been locally sourced. During the colder months, dine in their glorious barn or bothy, and in the summer, enjoy a glass of something in their beautiful Mediterranean inspired courtyard.
