The Eagle & Child Crowned British Pub Of The Year

The Great British Pub Of The Year award for 2017 has been given to the Eagle & Child in Ramsbottom, Lancashire. The ‘stunning’ pub was heralded for ‘the views, to the food, the events, the atmosphere, the beers and the staff’ by Ifeoma Dozie of John Smiths.

What’s more, it’s the pub’s social conscience that really sealed the deal, with the Eagle & Child providing local disadvantaged youths with a heap of opportunities to build skills and gain valuable work experience. Since taking over the pub 6 years ago, landlord Glen Duckett has given over 100 young people a shot behind the scenes.

‘I’m elated by what we have done and how we push young people to make themselves as employable as possible,’ Glen says of the accolade. ‘The Eagle and Child is a great example of what can be achieved in the modern pub trade,’ Ed Bedington, editor of the awards’ organisers, the Morning Advertiser, said. ‘This is not only a first-rate operation, with a great food and drink offer in stylish surroundings, this is a pub that is truly giving back to the community.’
