With many dedicated cycle trails in Aberdeenshire, the region comes up trumps for those searching for cycling mini breaks.  The Pitfichie Mountain Bike Trails near Alford are a cross-country riding dreamland, with the added bonus of Red and Black-graded sections. Throughout the summer months the Lecht Ski centre offers an uphill ride on the three-man chairlift with your bike, before a descent of easy or intermediate-graded mountain tracks.

If you are looking for an easy cycle ride that the family can join in on, then try the seven mile route from Insch to Oyne. This route allows you to cycle along at your own pace and discover many historic sites located on the route along the way.

Just to the south of Aberdeen, there is a 25 mile route from Stonehaven to Inverbervie road. This route is moderate to difficult in ability and is part of National Cycle Route 1, travelling through the beautiful villages of Kinneff and Catterline before passing the remarkable cliff top fortress of Dunnottar Castle.

There is an 11 mile route, Turrif Circular, which is a brilliant way to see the rich farmlands around the Fyvie and Formartine area of Aberdeenshire. One of the historical highlights to see along this route is Delgatie Castle which was built back in 1570.

On the Moray coast you can cycle the 13 miles from Aberdour Bay to Banff. This charming route follows quiet country roads alongside the coastline. Why not stop at Rosehearty on your travels, one of the oldest seaports in Scotland.
