Shibden Mill Inn Crowned Yorkshire’s Favourite Pub

The Shibden Mill Inn, Halifax, has been voted Yorkshire’s Favourite Pub for a second time – it was the first pub to win the prestigious title when the competition began in 2011.

The annual contest, run by Welcome to Yorkshire in partnership with Theakston Brewery and the Yorkshire Post, received a record breaking number of almost 20,000 votes this year. Presented on the Welcome to Yorkshire stand at the Great Yorkshire Show by Emmerdale actor Chris Chittell, who plays Eric Pollard, Simon Theakston of Theakston Brewery and Yorkshire Post Editor, James Mitchinson – the Millers Bar in Brighouse was awarded second place and The Fairfax Arms, Gilling East, came third.

Sir Gary Verity DL, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “Huge congratulations to the Shibden Mill Inn for being awarded the coveted title of Yorkshire’s Favourite Pub for the second time in eight years, it’s an outstanding
achievement and very well deserved. “Competition was incredibly fierce this year with a record number of 800 pubs across the county in the running – and with more votes placed than ever before, it proves once again that Yorkshire pubs remain at the heart of each community and are greatly appreciated by all.”

Nestled in the fold of the beautiful Shibden Valley, the Shibden Mill Inn was originally a corn and spinning mill in the 17th century, converted into a country pub in 1890. Today, visitors can enjoy real ales and first-class dining against an inviting backdrop of open fires, low beamed ceilings and a cosy bar.

Caitlin Heaton, owner of Shibden Mill Inn, said: “It’s just fantastic! We’re delighted! Shibden Mill Inn has been a family business for 20 years and is still going strong with loads of new ideas. We just can’t wait for the next 20 years. To have won back in 2011 and to win again 7 years later shows we’ve kept up our consistently high standards. A huge thanks to everyone who voted for us”.
