If you really want to get away from it all then visit the Orkney Islands. Out of the 70 islands, only 20 are inhabited and with a population of just over 20,000 people and as such, the Orkney Islands has a close knit and wonderful community spirit.
Life in the Orkney Islands is perhaps a lot less busy than the norm, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of things to do. The islands are over 6,000 years old and have incredible historical attractions from the Heart of Neolithic Orkney ( which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site) to the Old Man of Hoy – an astonishing 450ft geographical formation. The untouched landscaped of the islands are also home to an abundance of wildlife and plant life.
With a vibrant community spirit, there is a buzzing arts and crafts scene in the Orkney Islands. Visitors can follow the Orkney Craft Trail to see furniture, pottery, jewellery, art and more.
