If you’re visiting Hull for either business or pleasure, and there’s certainly plenty of the latter since it was voted ‘City of Culture’ in 2017, then the Whittington and Cat is a central and stylish place to base yourself at. Don’t be fooled by the Victorian exterior, the bar has been comprehensively redesigned in a contemporary style and the leather furniture and wooden floors mix well with the traditional and period features. The bar serves an excellent selection of beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks and the friendly team will make you feel right at home.
The kitchen serves a good range of hearty pub classics including curries, lasagne and pies. There’s an enticing Sunday lunch menu which, of course, comes with the all-important Yorkshire pudding. Desserts are nursery favourites and all come with a good spoonful of either ice cream, custard or cream on the side.
The 8 bedrooms are individually and eye-catchingly designed. Luxurious fabrics and velvet beds are mixed with period-style furniture and sumptuous carpets. Some of the rooms have spectacular marina views, all are en-suite and there’s even a four-poster bed if you’re looking for a little extra glamour. Please note that Whittington and Cat in Hull does not serve breakfast, but there’s a highly regarded café a short distance away which is open for guests.
Hull is a buzzing City and the amenities on the doorstep of the Whittington and Cat are plentiful. A short stroll will take you to the marina with its aquarium, as well as numerous shops, bars and restaurants. If you fancy a bit of culture, the Old Town is also close by which is home to a number of galleries, most of which have free entry.
