The Sun Inn is a characterful 17th-century thatched country pub in the peaceful village of Felmersham, beside the Great River Ouse, where old-fashioned charm meets ambitious food and beautifully considered bedrooms. There are just two rooms, created following an extensive restoration of the upper floors. Natural and sustainable materials, carefully chosen colours and beautifully crafted details complement the age and character of the building, making this a particularly appealing choice for a romantic break or special food-led stay. Think countryside walks followed by a pint in the bar, lazy afternoons in the cottage garden and fireside evenings when the weather turns cooler.

Bedrooms
With only two beautifully restored rooms, staying at The Sun feels wonderfully intimate. Occupying the upper floors of the historic thatched pub, the rooms have been designed as individual countryside retreats, blending the building’s 17th-century character with natural materials, tactile finishes and quietly luxurious contemporary details. Dusk (deluxe double) is the cosier of the two, but packs plenty into its peaceful dual-aspect space. Restful green tones create a calm, cocooning feel, complemented by a Hypnos double bed, private shower room, minibar, Nespresso machine and Samsung Artframe television. For something more indulgent, Dawn (king suite) stretches across the first and second floors and sleeps up to four. Original stone walls and the characterful old building provide the backdrop to a separate living and dining area, kitchenette, minibar fridge and Hypnos double sofa bed. Upstairs, a super king-size Hypnos bed sits beneath the eaves, accompanied by a freestanding copper bath for long, leisurely soaks. There is also an en-suite walk-in shower downstairs.
Food & Drink
Food at The Sun is rooted firmly in the surrounding countryside with the seasons shaping the menus. Dining ranges from relaxed pub food to more considered experiences. The Farmer’s Table showcases seasonal produce through a multi-course format, while the Farmer’s Grill and celebrated Sunday lunches put British ingredients and the pub’s farming connections centre stage. Drinks have been given similar thought. The traditional bar serves real ales, while the wider drinks list ventures into more distinctive territory with local liqueurs, carefully chosen wines, organic orange wine and a good selection of sparkling wines. It is equally suited to an unhurried pint by the wood-burning stove, a glass of wine with supper or something more adventurous alongside the tasting menu.
