Step through the door of this inviting country retreat and you’ll be sure of a warm welcome. The homely bar is stocked witha range of finely kept real ales from local breweries Quantock and Otter, as well as Cornish lagers and a range of single malt whiskies and gins. If you’ve been out hiking on the nearby moors, there’s nothing better than sinking into one of their comfy sofas by the warming wood-burning stove and having a relaxing drink
In the dining room you’ll find scrubbed wooden tables, an open fire and a chalkboard menu with all the daily specials. Recently awarded a star for its outstanding food by the Good Pub Guide for the fifth year in a row the chefs use local farms and suppliers for their home-cooked dishes. The menu switches seamlessly between traditional pub classics with contemporary dishes so expect Welsh rarebit with poached eggs or sausage sandwich with caramelised onions or Somerset baked brie fondant, parsnip gnocchi with fresh spinach and baby leeks or a classic T-bone steak with red wine sauce and truffle chips.
For an overnight stay there are 8 cosy, individually-decorated rooms all with private bath and shower facilities. Accommodation is traditional, some rooms come with wooden beds, some with iron… but all have a great country style and all are supremely comfortable. A delicious full English breakfast is included. Four-legged friends are welcome to stay in some of the bedrooms, but must stay on a lead in the dining room, bar and communal areas.
The pub is ideally placed for shooting groups visiting the area in nearby Devon and Exmoor you can also easily reach the beaches of the north and south coasts of the Westcountry peninsula from the Rock Inn – they are situated within half an hour’s drive at their closest points. The rolling hills of South Devon are below them and the rugged moorland coastline of Exmoor is to the north.
