The Inn was originally a staging post for travellers on their way between Dunster and Dulverton, and you will still find a warm welcome, good food and extremely comfortable accommodation awaiting you there today, almost 200 years later.
If you are looking for a walking, cycling, or fly-fishing break, they are the ideal base. There is a secure store at the inn, where cycles and other equipment can be kept, and they also have a drying room for wet clothes and boots. The bar area has a traditional country pub atmosphere, with log fires in winter. There is also a skittle alley and a pool table.
Their restaurant has firmly established itself as the place to eat when visiting the moor, or to pop in for a light snack when out for a ramble. They take pride in their traditional home-cooked pub meals, using local produce in and around Wheddon Cross Exmoor whenever possible. Great care and attention is taken in the cooking and presentation of each dish. Vegetarian dishes are always available, and any special dietary requests can be accommodated with prior notice.
The accommodation provide guests with a level of comfort more usually found in a four-star hotel rather than a country inn. All the bedrooms are en-suite with good quality furnishings. The comfortable beds are made up with crisp cotton sheets. Soft white bathrobes and a basket containing good quality toiletries and face cloths provide extra touches of luxury. Each room is like a hotel rather than a guest house and has a mini bar, safe deposit box, hair dryer, tea and coffee making facilities, television and telephone. There are ironing facilities on the first floor landing.
