The parlour at the Pilot Boat Inn is one large room with a log-burning stove at one end for warmth on cooler days and a collection of local paintings for sale on the walls. Large wooden tables and chairs accommodate the ever-shifting groups of friends, sailing enthusiasts, walkers and cyclists that convene throughout the day. Outside is a suntrap courtyard.
Burgers feature strongly on the menu with plenty of choice of filling, including rosemary and garlic lamb burger, spicy bean burger and apple and mustard pork burger. Given the location, fish is also popular – from a classic battered cod and chips to homemade scampi or Bembridge crab ramekin. In the summer, take a Pimms or prosecco onto the terrace; in the winter try one of the island’s locally brewed ales. Breakfast is a fry up in the pub or a hamper of pastries, cereals yoghurt and fruit.
They have five bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms, three overlooking the front. Close to the harbour, village and the beach, they are ideal for a visit to Bembridge or from which to explore the island. All the rooms are fitted with comfortable beds and good quality white linen and towels. A full English breakfast is cooked to your liking in the morning.
The Pilot Boat Inn is situated in the stunning village of Bembridge, which previously won village of the year. There is plenty to do with three beautiful beaches nearby; Lane End, the Ledge and Bembridge Beach. All are very popular for exploring with contrasting coastlines, rock pools and panoramic views out to sea. The harbour, which is just opposite the pub, is host to plenty of sailing as well as lots of traditional shops and boutiques to explore.
