Based in the trendy town of Chipping Norton, The Kings Arms makes the ideal base to relax with your friends and family, while exploring the delights of the surrounding town and area alike.
The pub’s handsome facade is testament to this pub’s historic past. In fact, it’s been serving the Chipping Norton locals for over 300 years. Family-run, you’ll feel relaxed as soon as you walk through the door.
The long, airy bar area features a great mix of real ales, wines and soft drinks, with lots of stools and snugs in which to enjoy a drink or two. The 3 wall-mounted plasma screens are ideal for catching up on the weekend’s sporting action, and there’s also a pool table if that’s your thing.
The wood-panelled walls make way for a glorious feature fireplace, which lends a touch of cosy during colder months. When the weather is kind, relax in the stylish patio area and take in the sounds of the buzzing street outside.
Food-wise, don’t expect fine dining – this is a place to feast on traditional pub grub at good prices. That said, what this pub does, it does very well. The simple menu features all the favourites, from chilli con carne to lasagne and burgers. The cod tails in Arkells beer batter aren’t to be missed, and for lighter bites, there’s baguettes and jacket potatoes, all served with sides.
The Kings Arms is also a good bet for accommodation. Its 12 rooms include doubles or twins, and there’s also 2 family rooms. If you’re bringing the kids, then make sure to book the family room based on two floors – older children will love the spiral staircase to the top bedroom.
All rooms are ensuite, with decent-sized bathrooms that are smart and clean. As you’d expect, the room rate comes with a full cooked breakfast in the morning, or tea and toast if that’s what you prefer. Car parking is free and there’s plenty of it – but the area does fill up quickly, so make sure to arrive near your check-in time to bag a space.
Naturally, this pub’s central location does mean that you may experience some noise from below – but if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em, we say!
