The George has a strong, local reputation for serving excellent food which pulls in diners from the surrounding villages. The bar, however, is not to be overlooked. A series of cosy, interconnecting rooms, the open log fire in the winter creates a cheerful atmosphere and you’ll be spoilt for choice by the drinks offering. Being Cask Marque accredited and featuring in the Good Beer Guide, there’s a substantial selection of cask ales including a weekly changing guest ale to sip and enjoy. They also offer an excellent wine list and a gin of the week.
The restaurant is split into two areas; the Market Place restaurant, or the more informal Courtyard. Whichever you choose, you’ll be served an excellent and good value menu underpinned by the kitchen’s field to fork philosophy, which ensures that ingredients are fresh, local and in season. The pub classics all feature alongside more adventurous mains and a daily changing specials board. Sunday lunch is a popular choice for the locals.
The rooms at the George are attractive and bright and offer excellent value for money. They are all en-suite, with modern and clean bathrooms, and for those travelling as a family, a couple can accommodate up to 4 people. A number of rooms are located on the ground floor of the building allowing easy access.
The George looks out over the cobbled marketplace of Easingwold which is a short drive north of York. The town is a peaceful place to wander around but, should you be looking for something a bit more challenging, then both the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks are easily accessible.
