Things to Do in Herefordshire

There’s so many things to do in Herefordshire, situated on the border of Wales and is rich in heritage and glorious countryside. It’s the perfect place for walkers with rolling fields such as the Malvern Hills. There’s so much to explore and discover in one of the UK’s most beautiful regions!

Museums and Heritage

Herefordshire is steeped in history from the ruins of Iron Age camps and castles. Goodrich Castle is one of the many magnificent castles on offer in Herefordshire and is located on the River Wye. Other castles in Herefordshire include Eastnor Castle, a Georgian Castle situated in the base of the Malvern Hills and Croft Castle, a 17th Castle surrounded by 1500 acres of parkland.

For those interested in art, Herefordshire has plenty of arts attractions on offer. There is an art week in September where artists across the region open their studios up to the public. Other events include the Contemporary Craft Fair in November and give visitors the chance to learn about crafts such as pottery and silversmithing.

You also won’t be disappointed with the marvellous food and drink on offer in Herefordshire. Home to some of the best cattle in the world and fertile soil, Herefordshire’s farmers produce some of the tastiest ingredients. Many restaurants and pubs support their local farmers and provide visitors with home-cooked meals made from locally sourced ingredients. There are also lots of farmers’ markets held throughout the year showcasing fantastic and delicious produce.

Gardens and Parks

Herefordshire is a haven for those interested in gardens with woodlands, forests and river valleys. Hergest Croft has 50 acres of magnificent trees, shrubs, azaleas and rhododendrons and is situated in the heart of the Welsh Marches. Another great garden to visit is Hampton Court which has walled gardens, a canal maze, water pavilions and is amongst the mighty Hampton Court Castle. For those looking to visit a smaller garden, Stockton Bury is an open garden and working farm which houses rare plants.

If you’re interested in plant wildlife Herefords has many nurseries available for the public to visit. Must visits include Lingen which has alpines and auriculas, herbs at Lawton Hall and Broadfield Court which is home to David Austin English Roses.

Walks and Trails

Herefordshire is the place to go if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The Herefordshire Trail is a 150-mile route that gives walkers a circular tour around the county. The route passes through the Malvern Hills in the east of the region to the Black Mountains in the West.

The route showcases Herefordshire magnificent countryside and takes walkers through woodlands filled with wildflowers, river valleys and apple orchards. The trail also takes walkers through quaint towns and villages that full of character such as Ledbury, Ross-on-Wye and Kington.
