The Royal George is an atmospheric 18th-century, Grade II-listed pub with rooms overlooking the beautiful Taw and Torridge Estuary, perched right on the water’s edge in the historic fishing village of Appledore. With boats passing outside, colourful streets around the corner and views across the water, it has all the ingredients for a memorable coastal break. The award-winning restaurant makes the most of its waterside position with an outdoor terrace and a modern British menu. Appledore invites you to slow down. Wander along the quay, explore independent galleries and cafés or set off towards Northam Burrows and Westward Ho! for beaches, dunes and coastal walks. The South West Coast Path and Tarka Trail also add plenty of possibilities for exploring on foot or by bike.

The Royal George has four en-suite bedrooms. Choose from King and Deluxe King rooms, alongside bedrooms with additional sleeping space for families. Each has its own character, with comfortable beds, TVs and tea and coffee-making facilities. Select rooms make the most of the pub’s enviable position with views towards the water, while larger configurations include sofa beds and additional space for longer stays. Dog-friendly accommodation is also available on request, by prior arrangement only.
For a slightly different experience, six additional rooms at The Sailors Rest place guests directly on Appledore’s historic quayside. A short stroll away, the Grade II-listed property has self-contained en-suite bedrooms.

Food is an important part of staying at The Royal George. Its award-winning restaurant serves a modern British menu, combining imaginative seasonal dishes with familiar favourites and daily specials. Then there is the view. The restaurant looks across the Taw and Torridge Estuary, while the outdoor terrace also provides a lovely spot to dine al fresco.
