Hidden Gem near Chippenham and Castle Combe

The White Hart is a wonderfully characterful 16th-century coaching inn near Castle Combe, tucked away in the tiny hamlet of Ford. Dating back to Tudor times, when it stood on the coaching route between London and the West Country, the pub still wears its history proudly, with creaking floors, exposed beams, wonky lintels and cosy corners adding plenty of old-world charm. Above and beside the pub are 11 individually designed bedrooms, offering a comfortable base for exploring the Wiltshire countryside and southern Cotswolds. Outside, the garden is a real highlight, with the By Brook meandering through it and leafy waterside tables providing an idyllic spot for a pint or leisurely lunch. Then there is the location. Walkers can follow a scenic circular route of roughly seven miles from Ford, while Chippenham, Lacock and Bath are all within easy reach too.
