Built over 200 years ago, The Star Inn serves a delicious choice of starters and sides, pasta and risotto, traditional pub classics, artisan Italian pizzas, daily specials, Sunday lunch (except during July and August), homemade cakes, ice cream, good options for children, and interesting choices for guests with dietary requirements.
The welcoming bar is well-stocked with beers, wines, spirits, and non-alcoholic drinks, and the village shop and newsagents to the side of the pub has helpful information for guests looking to explore the Northumberland National Park.
Once the Old Brewery House, their courtyard garden is the perfect spot from which to enjoy sociable al fresco drinks when the sun is shining.
The Star Inn has three comfortable en-suite twin or king double bedrooms. Each room comes with fresh bed linen and towels, a Smart TV, hairdryer, hot drink making facilities, desk/dressing table, WiFi access, and an enclosed patio garden with furniture.
There are also two cosy two-bedroom cottages, each of which sleeps four guests comfortably. Please note minimum night stays apply.
Drakestone Cottage has a double bedroom and bunk bed bedroom making it the perfect choice for family friendly staycations. Star Cottage has a double bedroom and small double bedroom. This cottage has no garden, but guests are welcome to enjoy the pub’s large courtyard and resident garden next door.
Dogs are welcome on request, with prior acknowledgment directly with the pub in their bedrooms and cottages.
The pub has no car park, however there is free roadside parking in the village. There are electric charging points in front of the school, a short walk from the pub and at the National Park car park in Alwinton two miles away.
Breakfast is a real treat and includes cooked, vegetarian, and continental options.
The pub is located about nine miles from Rothbury and is the picture-perfect, friendly base for walkers, cyclists, nature enthusiasts, and holidaymakers.
The Northumberland International Dark Sky Park is the largest Dark Sky Park area of protected night sky in Europe. There is an official Dark Sky Discovery Site in the National Park car park in nearby Alwinton.
The Pennine Cycleway (route 68) and the Sandstone Way (MTB route) cycling routes pass through the village, and there are many panoramic walks around Harbottle, Holystone, Alwinton, and the Cheviot Hills.
Alnwick Castle is a 45-minute drive away and the Northumberland coastline and Hadrian’s Wall are about an hour away by car.
