There is a certain novelty to going to sleep in a working brewery – particularly when the beer you enjoyed downstairs was made just a few feet from the bar. The Old Cannon has ten simply styled bedrooms, tucked into the oldest part of its historic brewhouse. Choose from eight doubles and two twins, giving couples, friends and solo travellers a straightforward choice of accommodation. Dogs are welcome on request, with prior acknowledgement – additional charges apply.
Food & Drink
You don’t have to look far to discover what makes eating and drinking at the Old Cannon different. The gleaming brewing vessels are right there in the pub, with beer made on the premises and served only a few feet from where it was brewed. It gives dining here a real sense of place – particularly in a Suffolk town with such a long brewing tradition. The pub serves freshly prepared food, balancing familiar favourites with seasonal dishes and a few contemporary twists, while Sundays are given over to proper roasts. Then there is the beer. Real ales are brewed on site, including house favourites such as Best Bitter and the stronger Gunner’s Daughter, with seasonal brews joining them throughout the year. Not a beer drinker? The bar has a strong gin selection, alongside wines, whiskies, rums, vodkas and other drinks.
