A lovingly restored pub in the centre of Malpas, The Lion has over three centuries worth of history, yet its modern updates still retain much of this historical charm. Inside the restaurant and bar you’ll find traditional wooden beams and comfortable furniture warmed by log fires, with plenty of nooks and crannies to get cosy in.
The pub’s comforting atmosphere is matched by its well-crafted menu full of locally sourced ingredients, overseen by The Lion’s expert kitchen team. Making best use of seasonal produce, the menus change frequently, but guests can be sure of delicious pub classics, contemporary dishes and a hearty cooked breakfast in the morning.
The Lion also boasts a cask ale range that supports local breweries, as well as a handpicked wine list, artisan gin list and a selection of high quality spirits.
The pub has 16 bedrooms that are set aside in the courtyard and accessed via the beautifully designed cottage garden. Guests have a choice of Village or Country rooms, as well as The Bakery, a luxurious duplex suite set over two floors. All accommodation is en-suite with rainfall showers as standard. The Bakery suite includes a roll top bath and separate living area, while every bedroom has a flat screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities and free WiFi. One of the Country rooms is wheelchair accessible and there are designated dog-friendly bedrooms as well.
Nestled away in the south west tip of Cheshire, The Lion is a stone’s throw from the borders with Shropshire and Wales. The iconic city of Chester is also less than 30 minutes’ drive away, while slightly closer to the pub is Beeston Castle and Aldersey Green Golf Club, both within ten miles.
