Eat, drink and sleep in the heart of Devizes

The Black Swan overlooks the historic Market Place in the heart of Devizes and brings together centuries of coaching-inn character, beautifully styled bedrooms and a restaurant that takes its food seriously. Upstairs are 11 en-suite bedrooms, ranging from a cosy single and twin to doubles and more indulgent rooms with a four-poster king-size bed or freestanding bath. Downstairs, food is a genuine reason to visit, and at the bar, Wadworth 6X and Horizon provide a suitably local pint. Then there is the location. Step outside and you are immediately among the independent shops, historic buildings and bustling Market Place. The Wiltshire Museum and Kennet & Avon Canal are within an easy walk, while the remarkable Caen Hill flight of 29 locks lies around a mile away. Bedrooms

There is plenty of personality behind the doors of The Black Swan’s en-suite bedrooms. Spread across the first and second floors of this historic listed building, the accommodation ranges from a snug single and twin to doubles and beautifully styled larger rooms with romantic touches. Calming neutral colours and crisp white linen create an inviting place to retreat to, while the quirks of the old coaching inn ensure the rooms don’t feel like they have come off a hotel production line. Thoughtful details include organic Bramley toiletries, tea and coffee-making facilities and Roberts radios. Dogs are welcome on request, with prior acknowledgement.

Food & Drink

The Black Swan’s philosophy centres on passionate, thoughtful cooking without unnecessary fuss, with careful attention to flavour and seasonality. Expect a mix of comforting classics and refined plates. Lunch is served throughout the week, followed by supper each evening, while Sundays have their own lunchtime offering. A dedicated children’s menu is available too. Being in the heart of Devizes – the home of Wadworth – it seems only right that a good pint plays an important part in a visit to The Black Swan. The bar serves Wadworth 6X and Horizon as its regular cask ales, giving guests the chance to enjoy locally brewed beer just a short distance from where it is made. A changing guest ale may also make an appearance, particularly during the summer months. Beyond the hand pumps, the bar offers a well-rounded choice of drinks for everything from a relaxed afternoon in the pub to something before supper.
