Food & Drink

The Black Bull Sedbergh is a multi-award-winning food-led destination pub who feature in the Estrella Damm Top 50 gastropubs list for 2025.

Enjoy exciting food created by Nina Matsunaga who appeared on the 2024 season of the Great British Menu. Expect menus inspired by the fusion of three different cultures, Nina’s rich Japanese/German heritage and co-owner James’s Dales upbringing. The restaurant serves dishes crafted from the fresh produce available from the landscape surrounding it.

Jay Rayner, The Observer wrote “Matsunaga was raised by Japanese parents in Düsseldorf and brings those influences to bear on the ingredients from the surrounding hills and meadows, but in a thrilling loose-limbed lets-be-having-you sort of way.”

Marina O’Loughlin, The Times wrote “Matsunaga is an exhilarating talent and the Black Bull an idyll of a place that marries everything a food nerd could wish for to a real sense of hospitality, all open fires & generosity.”

Embracing ecology and sustainability, the pub has an extensive wine cellar which is enough for any wine geek.
