Artist Residence Bristol City Centre, Bristol, BS2 8SA

  • 23 bedrooms

Art-filled rooms in the heart of the city

Artist Residence Bristol occupies a handsome Georgian townhouse on leafy Portland Square. Behind the historic façade are 23 individually designed bedrooms and suites, combining original architectural details with contemporary art, vintage furniture and playful, slightly unconventional interiors. Downstairs, The Boot Factory provides a relaxed neighbourhood setting for breakfast, drinks and informal dining, while comfortable communal spaces make it feel more like a lively townhouse than a conventional city stay. The location is equally appealing: Stokes Croft, Cabot Circus and the independent shops and restaurants of Gloucester Road are close by, with Bristol Old City and the harbourside easily reached on foot.

Telegraph Travel wrote: “Bristol’s Artist Residence is housed in a Georgian townhouse in the Stokes Croft quarter. It’s one of the city’s hippest places to stay, thanks to individually designed rooms with art gallery-worthy prints and a relaxed restaurant where cool creatives hang out over breakfast, and later, cocktails.”

Bedrooms

Artist Residence Bristol has 23 individually designed bedrooms and suites, and individuality is very much the point. The building’s past as a Georgian townhouse and former boot factory provides plenty of architectural character, while contemporary artwork, vintage and reclaimed furniture, rich colours and tactile fabrics ensure the rooms feel creative rather than corporate. Practical comforts run throughout the collection. Rooms include WiFi, TVs, complimentary toiletries, Roberts radios, pod coffee machines with Grind coffee, fresh milk, tea-making facilities, hairdryers and minibars stocked with local and artisan snacks and drinks. Families are welcome, as are dogs with prior acknowledgement in select rooms.

Food & Drink

The Boot Factory is the sociable heart of Artist Residence Bristol. Taking its name from the building’s former life, it has the relaxed feel of a neighbourhood café and bar rather than a formal restaurant, with original features, art-filled interiors and an easy atmosphere. Breakfast is served every morning, with freshly cooked dishes and good coffee. The drinks offering gives it plenty of appeal in its own right. Cocktails sit alongside a considered wine list, beers, cider, spirits and alcohol-free choices, with the bar providing an easy place for an early evening drink before exploring Bristol or a nightcap on returning. The emphasis is characteristically informal – good drinks in comfortable surroundings. In warmer weather, the courtyard garden provides another place for coffee, drinks and relaxed gatherings.
