Set in the lovely Hampshire countryside in the historic village of North Waltham, this 18th century Georgian coaching inn was an important postal receiving house, where travellers could hire horses and carriages. One of the Wheatsheaf’s most famous guests was Jane Austen, who would regularly come to collect the family’s mail. The impressive history and tradition of the building is showcased by the pub’s inviting bar and restaurant, with many of its original features still present.
With a Chef & Brewer restaurant onsite, The Wheatsheaf takes great pride in serving up delicious, freshly-prepared meals using the finest seasonal ingredients. There’s plenty of choice, from much-loved pub classics to more contemporary dishes with a twist. The carefully curated menus are filled with tempting game, fish and seafood recipes, while throughout the year there’s also themed menus and exciting food and drink festivals.
All of the pub’s 28 bedrooms are tastefully furnished, spacious, and full of character, all providing comfy beds and everything you need for a restful night’s sleep. Each bedroom includes tea and coffee making facilities and complimentary WiFi.
Basingstoke Golf Course is a 10-minute drive away. Stratfield Saye and Watercress Line can be reached in around 20 minutes by car, and good transport links at Basingstoke Rail Station are 6 miles away.
