A trip to The Board Inn will showcase some of the best hospitality and local produce Yorkshire has to offer. The cosy bar is warmed by the roaring log fire and the scrubbed wooden tables are buzzing with locals and visitors alike. They take their ales seriously here and have been awarded a Cask Marque accreditation having been assessed for temperature, appearance, aroma and taste. But if real ale isn’t your thing, then there are plenty of spirits and wines to quench your thirst as well as specialist coffees and hot chocolates.
The bar is home to dart boards and dominoes and there’ll usually be a friendly local willing to test your skills. If you’re looking for somewhere a little quieter, then the snug is just the place and it can be hired for private parties. There’s a pretty pub garden too for those visiting in the kinder months of the year.
The food here majors on pub classics and all produce is locally sourced. We hear that the steak and real ale pie is a bit of a favourite, but there are plenty of tempting options available. If you’re planning a day exploring the Dales, ask about their packed lunch service, and if you know you’ll arrive back in time, then don’t forget to book a delicious afternoon tea.
The Board Inn has five bedrooms ranging in size from a single to a luxury double complete with its own seating area. The rooms are excellent value for money and all prices include a hearty and cooked-to-order breakfast including American-style pancakes. Some rooms are dog friendly for a small, additional fee, just check when making your booking.
Hawes is a small market town excellently placed in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales. If you’re exploring by food or pedal power, you’ll find masses of accessible trails and gorgeous views. The Black Sheep brewery, a short distance away, offers tours, as does the Wensleydale Creamery, which is based in Hawes itself.
