The building has an early-to-mid-19th-century façade. The third floor (with dormer windows) was added in 1919. Remains of large internal beams, discovered during recent renovations, indicate that the building dates from medieval times. The Bell was mentioned in the 15th century, when Market Square had several inns or taverns.
