The Cricket Inn Crowned South West Pub of the Year

The Cricket Inn in Beesands, South Devon is celebrating after being crowned Gold at the South West Tourism Awards 2019. The seaside pub scooped Gold in the Pub of the Year category at last week’s lavish ceremony which was held at Bristol Aerospace Museum. They were up against 3 other pubs in the South West: The Pandora Inn in Cornwall (silver), The Millbrook Inn in South Pool (joint bronze) and The Cross Keys Inn in Somerset (joint bronze).

The Cricket’s Landlord Nigel Heath commented: “We’re so delighted to have won yet another award and our third Gold in 2 years. A massive well done to the whole of the Cricket team”. The judges commented on their mystery visit: ‘The Cricket Inn was an absolute joy from start to finish’. The award comes just a few months after picking up Gold at the Devon Tourism Awards and retaining their AA rosette for 10 years running.

With 390 people guests booked, the awards ceremony was the biggest annual regional gathering of South West tourism businesses, with 107 different awards presented following a rigorous judging process in which a record 651 entries were considered. Before the awards commenced the audience were delighted to hear from guest speaker Bonita Norris, the World’s youngest person to climb Everest and reach the North Pole.

Located directly on the South West Coast Path just opposite the beach The Cricket Inn is a popular choice with locals as well as holiday makers. It’s position to the coast means it’s renowned for fresh local seafood and the village itself has a strong fishing heritage which is echoed in the pub.
