Pub Event Accommodation Gains Support

Pub Event Accommodation:

Stay in a Pub who champion the pub event accommodation sector have recently organised and supported two events.

Thus they hosted a meeting of the Guild of Travel Writers with the objective of encouraging journalists to include pubs on their recommended lists of places to stay.

Currently there are 92.6 million overnight stays in the UK with inbound tourists accounting for 20% of the spend. However with the pub being one of the top 3 places to visit by foreign tourists offering a bed for the night makes sense.

Paul Nunny of Stay in a pub “The pub offer of Eat, Drink and Sleep is highly attractive proposition when compared with a B&B. Which has little sociability and perhaps a drive to a pub for dinner or a hotel that lacks atmosphere in the bar and is not renowned for their food. It seems a no brainer to me.”

Alastair McKenzie, the Chairman of the Trade Writers summed up his views “The standard of pub accommodation has been rising in recent years – a trend that has been overlooked by many travellers. So the ‘Stay in a Pub’ initiative is a timely one. Because I stayed in a number of excellent pubs around the country in 2015. I’m keen to find more this year and pleased that many Guild members seem eager to do the same.”

Therefore a second event was held in conjunction with Guestline who deliver online booking platforms. A round table debate took place with many of the major players in the industry. Fullers, Youngs, Greene King, Punch, Enterprise and Shepherd Neame as well as BBPA and Visit England. The event took the form of a SWOT analysis of the industry and the learnings will generate a paper for further industry input.
