A medieval vaulted chamber etched by stout stone walls, afire with candle-style-ambience and warmed by the welcomed chatter of moorland travellers; there is truly no other pub quite like Lord Crewe Arms. Add to the mix a hearty stock of Northumbrian ales, including their very own ‘Lord Crewe Brew’ on tap and throw in a rather thoughtful selection of cracking wine, topped with a good few measures of highland whisky, then spice it up with a Geordie cocktail or two…and there you have it – the finest free house for miles around.
When the summer-tide arrives, they spill out from Lord Crewe Arms into their pretty pub garden. Spoiled with the back drop of the North Pennine moors, it’s primed for quaffing ales in the sunshine, accompanied by a delicious menu of meats from chefs trusty ‘Big Green Egg’ barbie.
Boasting a kind of lawlessness akin to the moors that envelop them, expect patchwork feasts vibrant with colour, beautiful and seasonal ingredients plucked from countryside spoils, celebratory centre pieces begging to be passed around, delicious home grown crops bestowed on them from the bottom of their garden and, of course, the most heavenly of meats, yours to share, roasting in the gentle glow of their medieval fireplace.
Coloured by the Northumbrian landscape and with a Twelfth Century abbots guest house, miners cottages and the village’s ‘Angel of Temperance’ as your pillows of choice, you can rest assured that wherever and whatever your pick, the epitome of a countryside escape awaits. Homely enough for slippers and socks, boasting beds that beg you to jump into them, and kissed with the softest of yarns. Their rooms are all about ‘those’ creature comforts with an added dash of moorland luxury thrown in for good measure. Do take a look at the rooms tab above this text for more information.
Their meeting space stands just across the country lane in a handsome building that once held the keys to the tranquil village of Blanchland. These rooms are primed for relaxation with “fresh air for fresh thinking”.
