Visit Leicestershire

Tourists choose to visit Leicestershire as it is packed full of great attractions for all the family, and is made up of stunning countryside, including the National Forest. It’s the perfect place to go if you enjoy walking as there are miles of footpaths and riverbanks to discover.  In addition, due to the various different waterways in Leicestershire, you can take a river boat through quaint canals, scuba dive through inland quarries and fish in local reservoirs.

For those interested in history, a trip to Belvoir Castle is a must. It is featured on screen as Windsor Castle in Season 3 of the drama, The Crown, and it is surrounded by beautiful gardens and lakes. Dating back to the 11th century, Belvoir Castle is the ancestral home of the Duke of Rutland. The Castle’s turrets and towers rise over the Vale of Belvoir making it stand out from afar. Four castles have stood on this spot since 1067. The Castle looks over miles of countryside and on a clear day you can even see Lincoln Cathedral.

Get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life with a visit to Bradgate Park in Leicester.  Spread over 830 acres of publicly accessible countryside over a wild and rugged terrain, the park offers some of the finest views of Leicester and the surrounding countryside. Within the park, there are various areas to explore, such as The Ruins of Bradgate House which was one of the earliest brick-built country houses in England. The Old John Tower and the Yeomanry War Memorial sits on the highest point of the Park and is one of Leicestershire’s most famous landmarks. Animal lovers will want to visit the Red and Fallow deer herd which roam in a large area of the Park. Whilst this is an amazing sight to see, visitors are advised to keep their distance and take extra care when visiting with young children or dogs.
