In the winter, the Chequers greets you with roaring log fires, a cosy atmosphere, delicious comfort food and winter warmers from the bar. In the summer, they throw open the doors to their pretty garden, perfect for al fresco dining and a glass or two of rose!
Their food is seasonal and the menu changes monthly – blink and that favourite dish you had the other night might have already been replaced by another creation. Whether you fancy a burger and a pint or a 3 course restaurant experience, you’ll find it on their menu.
Their extensive wine list offers over 30 by the glass as well as a separate champagne list. They run four real ales at all times including their house local Rutland Bitter from the Grainstore Brewery alongside a constant changing range of guest beers. They also have a permanent cider hand-pull offering the opportunity to showcase some smaller cider producers and 30 gins featuring some favourites alongside a range of boutique offerings together with a monthly changing craft gin. They also serve an array of cocktails and fine cognacs.
The Bakehouse is a cosy, intimate restaurant with a log burner for cold nights and The Snug is another of their smaller dining rooms, just off the bar with an open log fire. Their Drawing Room is just off The Snug and features an original parquet floor and will accommodate private parties for up to 24 guests, whilst The Garden Room is just behind the main bar and offers private dining for up to 16 guests on one large table.
The Chequers have four comfortable en-suite bedrooms located in a converted stable block adjacent to the Inn. All feature large flat screen TV’s, Duck Island toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities and a minimum of a comfy king size bed with crisp, white linen.
Dogs are welcomed with open arms at this pub in the bar and under control in the garden. If you would like to have dinner in the bar with your canine friend it is always a good idea to book in advance as their huge sharing bar tables are very popular. Dogs are also welcome to stay in a couple of their bedrooms for an additional nightly nominal charge.
