Details

The Anchor Inn is a friendly family run 17th Century traditional pub set in a delightful village on the original banks of the River Severn.

The Anchor Inn is situated in Oldbury on Severn. A very pretty South Gloucestershire village nestling on the original banks of the river. It has a long history dating back to the Iron Age and Roman periods, with three brand new comfortable en-suite bedrooms and offering great food, drink and atmosphere. In 2013 they were awarded the Value Pub of the Year by the Good Pub Guide.

The dining room at the Anchor is light and bright with double doors leading out onto the beautiful garden. With elegant country style décor and seating for forty. On Sundays they always offer at least two different roast meat dishes at lunch time.

You can dine informally in the garden in the summer, lounge and public bar where the menu is the same as in the dining room. Although children are most welcome in the dining room and can have great fun playing in the garden, they do like to keep the pub side for adults only.

As a traditional country pub the menu caters for all tastes and occasions, ranging from simple ciabatta sandwiches and classic pub dishes to more complex flavours enough to tempt any foodie out of the city. Their chefs prepare and cook fresh food on the premises using quality ingredients, which are local where possible with fish delivered daily from Brixham, beef and lamb from local Gloucestershire farms, venison from two local estates, cream and free range, new laid eggs from the village. Seasonal speciality dishes in include: steak and kidney pudding, cassoulet, hand crafted Oldbury tarts, and faggots. Their menu changes weekly so whether you want a quick snack, a mid-week lunch or a superb evening meal out you can’t go wrong when you choose the Anchor Inn.

The bar is everything that you would expect from a traditional country pub…warm and welcoming, cosy and snug. With photos from the past, fishing and farming bric a brac, all reminders of the pubs long history. Well kept traditional beers and a well stocked cellar add to that authentic country pub atmosphere.

The neatly kept lounge has an easy-going atmosphere, with beams and stone, a mix of tables including an attractive oval oak gate-leg, cushioned window seats, winged seats against the wall, oil paintings by a local artist and a big log fire in winter.

The Anchor has an extremely large garden to the side and rear of the pub, with plenty of garden furniture and room for children to run around. In summer, you can eat in the pretty garden when the well stocked borders, the hanging baskets and window boxes are at their best. At the end of the garden is a large Boules area were teams regularly meet to play.

The Anchor Inn has three newly converted, tastefully furnished, double bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms. All are equipped with flat screen, Freeview digital televisions, ironing facilities, hair dryer, toaster, fridge, complimentary mineral water, tea and coffee making facilities. Oldbury on Severn is an ancient salmon fishing village and the rooms are named after nearby traditional salmon fishing stands.
