Details

The Sun Inn, Dalkeith, is an award winning pub and AA 4 star rated boutique inn where you’ll get the the warmest of welcomes, friendly service and an atmosphere with real character.

As AA Pub of the Year 2010-2011 and Scottish Gastropub of the Year 2011, we're proud of our reputation for serving great beers and wines alongside delicious food that's cooked with flair and made from the best and freshest local ingredients.

We're also an AA four-star plus boutique inn (with a rosette in recognition of our food) and offer five stylish and supremely comfortable rooms, including a fabulous suite - perfect for a romantic getaway.

Each of the rooms at the Sun Inn has been individually styled and feature stunning wallpaper and furniture that was handmade by a local craftsman. Each room has a character all of its own, but they all provide a comfortable and luxurious space in which to relax and sleep.

All our bedrooms have en-suite luxury bathrooms, complete with power showers and stocked with exclusive toiletries from Purdeys of Argyll. Among the other luxury touches you'll enjoy are Plasma T.V. with unrestricted satellite reception, a selection of DVDs and a Roberts DAB Radio. To help you get a sound night's sleep, you'll also find that each room boasts Hypnos luxury mattresses and high-thread-count Egyptian Cotton Bedding.

Food

The award-winning food at the Sun Inn is best described as Modern British, prepared with expertise and imagination using the best available Scottish produce. The emphasis is on pub classics cooked to bring out the true flavours of the exceptional game, seafood and other raw ingredients we favour.

Recent stand-out dishes include seared king scallops on hornigs black pudding, Borders beef cooked in red wine with baby onions and, for desert, a Tiramisu cheesecake with roasted coffee bean crème anglaise. A perennial favourite is our traditional Sunday lunch. This comprises a generous portion of roast leg of lamb with homemade Yorkshire pudding, dripping roast potatoes and real gravy. Come and eat your fill, then relax with the Sunday papers by the fire for the rest of the afternoon: Heaven!

Beers & Wines

As an independent free house it is our aim to serve a good quality, ever-changing selection of local and regional cask ales. For example, we have the exceptional cask beers from Stewart Brewing on tap.

Stewart is one of Edinburgh's leading independent breweries. Our range of bottled beers features local favourites like Innis & Gun alongside many international star lagers and ales.

Our wine list is carefully chosen to provide the perfect complement for our food – of course they can all be enjoyed on their own too! The selection of our wines is a labour of love for our team, who work alongside the region's leading independent wine suppliers to bring you the best – from delicious, but inexpensive, house reds and whites up to a special vintages and champagnes to help you celebrate in style.

The surrounding countryside is also well worth exploring – from the stunning beaches and pretty market towns of East Lothian to the castles and stately homes of the Borders. Newbattle Abbey, the National Trust Garden at Eskbank and the 15th century Rosslyn Chapel (made famous in Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code) are just some of the attractions close to the Sun Inn itself.
