The Bull Inn is a beautiful 14th century inn that has been lovingly restored to create a beautiful and stylish hotel and superb gourmet dining destination that now sits in the heart of Kent.
Since taking over The Bull in the historic village of Wrotham seven years ago, Martin Deadman has transformed the 600-year-old coaching inn from an obscure and rundown B&B with a restaurant to a destination country hotel with a highly regarded restaurant whose menu is matched with perfect wines.
In the restaurant, the menu has been completely revamped by a talented new team of chefs (Ben Richards, sous chef; Rob McLean, chef de partie and John Coles, commis chef) led by head chef James Hawkes, a professional with over 20 years’ experience. The award-winning modern British menu makes delicious use of the highest quality seasonal produce from the wealth of fantastic local Kentish producers – from free-range eggs at nearby Woods’ Farm, to the royally acclaimed Winterdale Shaw cheese produced locally and the now legendary beef steaks from close-by Glovers Farm, which are hung exclusively for The Bull’s restaurant for 30 days.
The Kentish credentials stretch to the drinks menu too with the best wines, beers and ales selected from local vineyards and artisan breweries including Chapel Down, Dark Star and The Old Dairy Brewery.
All our rooms benefit from an en suite bathroom, central heating, TV, free Wi-Fi, with tea and coffee provided for those early mornings. No matter what size accommodation you’re staying in, a freshly cooked breakfast menu, made with only local produce, is available every morning.
After a radical overhaul, each of the hotel’s 11 rooms have been individually styled to give them uniqueness; from country chic to the restoration of original Georgian windows and flawless modern bathrooms, every angle is covered, with Laura Ashley furnishing creating a bespoke décor.
With careful work, the restoration team have managed to uncover beautiful gnarled oak floors, stunning fireplaces and even a secret wall. Every aspect of the refurbishment has been delicately carried out to ensure that the original features of the 14th century inn facilitate every modern feature, creating the beautiful 21st century country hotel and gourmet dining destination that now sits in the heart of Kent.
