The Edinburgh International Book Festival launched in 1983 and is now a major event in the August Festival season, celebrated annually in Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh. At first the festival was held every two years, but since 1997 the Book Festival is celebrated yearly. Throughout its history, the Book Festival has grown quickly in size and scope to become the largest and most vibrant festival of its kind in the world. In its first year the Book Festival played host to just 30 'Meet the Author' events. Today, the Festival hosts over 700 events, which can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
