Hyde 900 is the name initially given to a programme of community-led events designed to mark the 900th anniversary of the foundation of Hyde Abbey, the burial place of King Alfred the Great. The festival, designed to commemorate Alfred and the Abbey’s place in English history, celebrated the history of Hyde, explored the locality and environment, and showcased the wide variety of talents of the people who live in the area.
Since the anniversary in 2010, Hyde900 has continued as a community organisation, organising social and cultural events and supporting research into the history of the Hyde area. It also supports other events in and around Hyde.
