Levens Hall image

The captivating Elizabethan charm of Levens Hall has for over 500 years intrigued and fascinated countless generations of visitors. In continual family ownership since 1590 the house, the garden and the park have been painstakingly conserved in order to provide an indelible set of historical footprints for you to discover and enjoy.

Use your time here to explore how this house has gradually evolved from a fortress into a comfortable family home and how each owner has left their mark on the architectural fabric of the building and its contents. Whether it’s our ornate Italian plaster ceilings, the collection of paintings and historical artefacts or perhaps just hearing about our royal connections, you will find plenty to enjoy during your time here.

The Garden

Laid out in the 1690s, the garden amazingly still retains many of its original features. Its very special atmosphere is partly felt through a great sense of continuity. Those three centuries of garden making here have made it a magical place. Each new generation brings a reworking within the historic framework to create fresh and beautiful contemporary plantings. A sense of excitement and joy is felt throughout in this continuing evolution of colour and design.

We hope you get as much pleasure out of visiting the Garden at Levens Hall as the many generations of gardeners.
