Associate of the Royal Academy (1739-97), Joseph Wright of Derby is a celebrated landscape and portrait painter of great significance and we are privileged to have such a wonderful collection of his work on display. Discover more about Joseph Wright and the collection here.
You’ll also find a large display of Royal Crown Derby and other porcelain, as well as fascinating displays featuring archaeology, geology, natural history, military history and other fine art – including a temporary exhibition space upstairs where there’s always something exciting and unusual to experience.
Come and lose yourself in the visual poetry of our recently-added 1001 Objects exhibition, a display designed to delight and inspire through bringing together an eclectic selection of objects from our vast museum stores. The theme of the exhibition is “materials”, and it is set around the stunning centrepiece of our famous Bronze-Age Log Boat – an unmissable and award-winning display.
With space to sit and draw, discuss or simply to think, the museum is yours to enjoy, so please do come along and visit, and use this extraordinary collection from the past to inspire creativity and your future.
