Tullie House Museum and Art GalleryCarlisle Category Museums & Galleries
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery is Carlisle’s premier visitor attraction and boasts a wide range of features, exhibitions, artefacts and events. It houses one of the largest purpose-built contemporary art galleries in the north of England and presents a changing programme of exhibitions of regional, national and international importance.
Set in beautiful gardens, Old Tullie House is a Grade 1 listed building, and is home to a nationally important collection of Pre-Raphaelite art. Many features of the 17th century architecture still remain, such as the beautiful Jacobean staircase.
From fine art to interactive fun, there’s something for everyone at Tullie House. The newer buildings house many exciting, interactive games and activities for visitors of all ages. Visit our recently opened Roman Frontier Gallery, which promotes the western end of Hadrian’s Wall.
Our archaeological collection features objects from periods as early as the Old Stone Age, through the Roman, Celt, Viking and Middle Ages.
With a mixture of hands-on exhibits and a huge collection of artefacts, the Tullie House experience is not to be missed!
Our family friendly restaurant serves a variety of meals and snacks, while the Tullie House gift shop is the perfect place to find unique gifts and locally crafted goods.
